From the show\u2019s poor attempts to be more diverse to downright cringeworthy moments, it seems like the only people more disappointed than fans with season one is Peloton.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In a shocking end to episode one, Big suffers a heart attack after completing his 1,000th ride on his Peloton bike. Following the five stages of grief model, viewers seemed especially stuck in a state of anger. There was a lot of speculation that Peloton had a product placement deal with the show; however, it was <span style=\"color: #3aa7f1;\"><a style=\"color: #3aa7f1;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2021\/12\/11\/arts\/television\/peloton-sex-and-the-city.html\">never confirmed<\/a><\/span> (or denied!)<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Peloton took matters into its own hands to control the narrative. They quickly <span style=\"color: #3aa7f1;\"><a style=\"color: #3aa7f1;\" href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/jsE7IRL2Ees\">released an ad<\/a><\/span> through Ryan Reynolds\u2019 agency with Chris Noth and the Peloton class instructor featured in the show to promote cycling and heart health. The messaging was clear: \u201cand just like that he\u2019s alive.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Peloton forgot to remember that it is best not to disturb the dead. After the ad was released, <span style=\"color: #3aa7f1;\"><a style=\"color: #3aa7f1;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2021\/12\/17\/entertainment\/chris-noth-peloton-ad\/index.html\">sexual assault claims<\/a><\/span> against Noth surfaced, causing Peloton to attempt to distance itself from more controversy.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Spoiler alert: Peloton couldn\u2019t catch a break. In mid-January, Peloton announced that it would be stopping production of its bikes, citing the changing trends in fitness as more people can return to the gym in a more traditional sense. Supply chain issues and inflation have not helped the poor earnings reports and falling stock price, more than an 80% drop from January 2021. In an effort to save the worst bike crash since the <span style=\"color: #3aa7f1;\"><a style=\"color: #3aa7f1;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2021\/12\/10\/world\/europe\/tour-de-france-crash.html\">Tour de France incident<\/a><\/span> of 2021, Peloton <span style=\"color: #3aa7f1;\"><a style=\"color: #3aa7f1;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/business\/2022\/02\/08\/peloton-layoffs\/\">laid off<\/a><\/span> 2,800 workers, and CEO John Foley is stepping down and transitioning into the executive chairman role. Don\u2019t worry; employees that were affected received a 12-month Peloton subscription.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"row\" style=\"padding-top: 0px; padding-bottom: 20px; width: 99%; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;\">\n<h2 class=\"color2-color\"><span style=\"color: #0077b6;\">So, what is next for Peloton?<\/span><\/h2>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"border-radius: 0px;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Apple and Amazon are among the companies that seem to be interested in <span style=\"color: #3aa7f1;\"><a style=\"color: #3aa7f1;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.morningbrew.com\/daily\/stories\/2022\/02\/06\/amazon-nike-among-companies-rumored-to-be-interested-in-buying-peloton?utm_campaign=mb&utm_medium=newsletter&utm_source=morning_brew&mid=fe3ec00bf78f9215d0492f3c89aed0bf\">acquiring the company<\/a><\/span>. Apple has historically been more interested in fitness technology lately, and the Peloton subscription model seemingly could integrate into Apple Fitness+. Amazon is less known as a fitness brand, but it also has a subscription service, Prime.
