The Sequel – MBA Edition

The Sequel – MBA Edition

Well, well, well… look who’s back. After over two years without picking up the pen, it feels fitting to bring Streaming Consciousness back to life. I’m heading back to UNC to continue my academic journey—this time as an MBA candidate—and I wanted a space to document this next chapter, reflect on what I’m learning, and share the experiences and people that shape the road ahead.

This blog started as an outlet during my senior year, where I could explore, research, and piece together thoughts on topics that excited me. Over time, it became a small but important habit: sitting down, sorting through my ideas, and figuring out the next topic to inquire about. In many ways, it only makes sense to return to it now, as I step into a new season of learning, growth, and (hopefully) clarity.

If you’re curious about what this next chapter looks like — the wins, the challenges, and everything in between — you’ll find it here.

So… Lia, why an MBA now?

Excellent question. One I’ve asked myself more than once over the past few months. I’ll be honest; it feels like everyone I know is either running a marathon or going to grad school. Since I have never enjoyed running or claimed to be one, grad school seems like the better choice.

I am just kidding. The truth is, I’ve always had an interest in returning to school. For a long time, getting an MBA, especially at Carolina, felt like a “someday” goal. But “someday” can stretch further and further away unless you choose to make it “today.”

In a practical sense, I’m excited to deepen my business knowledge, strengthen my leadership skills, and open doors to opportunities I wouldn’t have access to otherwise. But there’s also a personal side to this: I miss being a student. I miss the challenge of being pushed outside my comfort zone and am ready to be back in the academic fast lane. I am excited to join this group of professionals. Each brings unique experiences, yet we are connected by a shared curiosity and desire to learn from one another.

Of course there is some fear mixed in with all the excitement. Starting something new always comes with uncertainty. I know it won’t be easy balancing classes, work, and everything else life throws in, but I’ve learned that I tend to do my best work when I’m stretched a little bit beyond what feels comfortable.

I’m ready for a season focused on learning, growth, and investing in my future. Most importantly, though, I’m prepared to write it all down here. So welcome back, friends. I’m glad you stuck around.
